This year’s freshman graphic & interior design students underwent a new approach in Foundation Design I and II.
In a collaborative studio team-taught by 3 professors, students worked on a variety of individual mini-projects, as well as larger multi-week group projects. They learned the elements and principles of design through theory, applied assignments and by identifying these concepts in the world around them. Students also experienced an introduction to interdisciplinary problem-solving, user-centered research, creative brainstorming methods, and research methods.
The experimental nature of the course created an environment that allowed students to practice adaptability and flexibility in a team-based model. The course content will continue to evolve in order to meet the challenges and demands that future designers face.
