In the fall semester, Graphic Design majors collaborated with Education majors to develop tools for classroom instruction. Students used design and collaborative thinking methods to meet specific K-12 classroom challenges.
The Graphic Design students attended several Education classes to observe and learn current methods to teach reading. The teams then met outside of class to ideate and create content for teaching materials that would help facilitate reading instruction. At the conclusion of the semester, Design students presented the finished materials to the Education students. During the spring semester, Education students will further test these tools for effectiveness as they practice in the classroom.
Through this cross-disciplinary collaboration, students shared perspectives and working processes that revealed similarities which enabled them to delve deeper into the subject matter, create innovative solutions and improve upon their own working processes.
