The first year of the Graphic Design program is the most guided and has a strong connection to foundation design curriculum, including understanding and applying the elements and principles of design and effectively. Students are introduced to image creation, manipulation and production using industry-standard software and working by hand, in order to execute design concepts and create original imagery. Through a variety of assignments, students begin to explore research methods and user-centered design practices.
These introductory courses are intended to bridge the gap between foundations and graphic design practice, so as students learn process, the importance and integration of foundation skills. They are introduced to applied design thinking and the methods and processes in the practice of graphic design.
