La Roche College graphic design students recently learned what it takes to conceptualize, develop and design projects for a real-world client — all within a 60-hour time frame. From November 3rd through November 6th, the La Roche Design Division hosted Immersions, an annual design challenge where graphic design students have two and a half days to create concepts, develop solutions and pitch their projects to an outside client.
This year teams of juniors and seniors developed design solutions for the Office of Mayor William Peduto, specifically for its Welcoming Pittsburgh initiative. Welcoming Pittsburgh is a multi-tiered plan aimed to attract, support and grow a diverse work force in Pittsburgh. Students were challenged with bringing awareness about the initiative and communicating its importance in a compelling and digestible manner.
Past clients have included Attack Theatre, CORE (Center for Organ Recovery and Education), Global Links, Haiti H20, WPSBA and North Hills Community Outreach. CORE and Global Links produced the solutions. The Welcoming Pittsburgh team also plans on producing the solutions created for them.
