Immersions is a 3-day design project that La Roche University Graphic Design Juniors and Seniors take on annually, working with a local nonprofit organization to create design/branding/event collateral. Students are dismissed from classes and have 60 hours to develop a concept and examples of print and/or web collateral in accordance with client specifications.
This year, students worked to help a leading Pittsburgh nonprofit organization, Amachi which provides mentoring, support, and resources for children of incarcerated parents. LRU students were challenged to design an event campaign for for their “Amachi Hachi Pachi”—an annual celebration and fundraiser to empower youth and families with food, cocktails, music, and art. The emphasis of the event is Children of Promise: Breaking Cycles of Generational Incarceration
Our students presented a series of themes and supporting graphic solutions to the Amachi team. Their concepts shared items such as an 80’s neon futuristic festival theme, new logo identities for both the “Amachi Hachi Pachi” event and Amachi themselves, mailers, posters, and other necessary printed promotion material, wristbands with holographic foil stamping, and even black light activated graphics.
The client’s favorite team presented the concept of “Ready Set Glow” — a theme inspired by the energy of neon lights and how that connects to the the brightness that Amachi’s programming brings into the lives of the young people they work with.
We’d once again like to thank Amachi for being our client this year, all of our junior and senior graphic design students for participating, and the faculty and staff who help to make this great project happen each year!
