Throughout college, I’ve used the term “graphic designer-ish” in my social media bios but I think it’s officially time to drop the “-ish.” Growing up in a small, rural town, I was known as “the quiet art kid.” Some of my early college professors might agree but, thankfully, that too has changed for the better. From a young age, creating and solving problems visually has played a huge part in how I navigate the world. When I learned that it could be used to help others navigate, becoming a graphic designer just made sense. Now that I’m about to start my career, I can’t imagine doing anything else. Illustration, packaging design, and branding are all areas that I am passionate about. A local design firm that inspires me is Imagebox; I really appreciate their approach and how they highlight the significance of capturing the story of a brand.
COVID has obviously done damage in many ways but it also brought me the opportunity to do a remote internship that allowed me to use my skills for the work of The Pittsburgh Buddhist Center, a healing arts practitioner, and a local entertainment group—all from my laptop in my hometown.
When I am not endlessly immersing myself in design in one way or another, I am a cat mom. I also enjoy binge playing The Sims 4 every few months, listening to the same twenty-something-year-old Coldplay album on repeat, and watching anything and everything from The Try Guys.
