As a little kid drawing pages and pages to the point where I fell asleep at the kitchen table, I couldn’t imagine becoming a graphic designer, but now it seems like fate. The meticulous hours I would spend drawing to the point where all the crayons broke was a huge sign; I needed to take this into a career. Graphic design has always been a steady constant in my life. My dad is a graphic designer. He always had a steady stream of discussion about his work, which I realize is part of the inspiration. But the main part is the self-discovery I found during these four years. When thinking about a career, I went through many career choices, from photographer to forensics and even a veterinarian. Still, all those paths let me no were. Still, one constant path was graphic design.
The new inspiration that keeps me going is a fascination with the idea that visuals communicate in a universal language. The experimental qualities you can achieve with design keep me going and always thinking of new ways to do unique projects. The most important is self-discovery. The design has opened up my mind to many possibilities and opportunities to be more confident in my work and myself.
During the pandemic, besides sitting in my room bored, I started to sketch more. Normally I would leave sketching for classes, but I sought to find a new way to cope with easing these stressful times. The past year of drawings and sketches for design ideas have become work that I’m proud to display.
